Outlet for Coal from the Chain Conveyor
1958 - 1963

Chen Kompeya no Sekitan Otoshiguchi
[Outlet for Coal from the Chain Conveyor]
21.1 x 30.3 cm Ink Painting

Text at the Bottom Right
This is the outlet for coal from the chain conveyor. When the loader loaded mine cars with coal from the chain conveyor, he pushed the mine cars one by one to the outlet on a double track railroad. He skillfully loaded coal in hundreds of mine cars everyday. At first, a bridge made of two pieces of iron material was installed between the outlet and the dipped side of the level in order to fix a roller to drive the chain on it. However, this bridge was removed later and the method of loading coal was changed to this way because the former method was too inconvenient for loading coal. This painting shows the conditions in and after 1935. I suppose the conditions nowadays are more improved.

Text at the Top Right
When the loader changed a loaded mine car with an empty one, he put a board between the two cars and took it out immediately after changing the cars. It was a feat not to spill any coal on the track. He rarely used his scraper and sometimes cleaned the track on which coal was spilt with a shovel.

Text at the Top Left
A chain with vanes was used for conveying coal through slopes.
