[Volunteer Mining Work by the Staff and the Labor Leaders in 1947]
21.1 x 30.0 cm Ink Painting
This painting shows the special volunteer mining work which was cheerfully done by the staff and the labor leaders of our pit on November 16, 1947. It was done on a coalface facing the new ascending slope from the No.1 level left of the faulted slope.
The head-office members who were involved in this work in the No.1 level left were:
Mr. Ishikawa, Mr. Shiraishi, Mr. Kamijo, Mr. Nakano, Mr. Fukaura, Mr. Yamasaki, Mr. Kidosaki, Mr. Tokigawa, Mr. Furuya, and others.
The above members pushed mine cars for about 300 meters in the level.
The staff members (Not all of the members' names are shown here) were:
Mr. Momii (father), Mr. Maeda, Mr. Shinoda, Mr. Akiyama, Mr. Kato, Mr. Hirai, Mr. Matsuo, Mr. Matsui, and underground bosses including Mr. Okabe and Mr. Saku (Sakubei) Yamamoto.
The labor Leaders were:
Mr. Mikajiri, Mr. Yamashita, Mr. Ohgami, Mr. Ichikawa, Mr. Hori, Mr. Kuita, and Mr. Kawahigashi.
The above members outputted 35 mine-car-loads of coal from the only No. 1 level left the day. The work was difficult, because they could not leave the coalface cluttered and had to moor more than three mine cars at a time in the steep slope, though the working hours were very short. There were so many workers that the workload of each worker was unbalanced.
The members of the young men's association in the pit voluntarily worked on December 15th in the same year. 37 young people including president Daigo produced as much as 119 mine-car-loads of coal after working hard from 4:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., though some labor leaders helped them in the daytime. Four elite young men named Shigeru Toyoda, Sen Okabayashi, Kaoru Amae, and a certain Mr. Nagumo worked hard and effectively bore blast holes.
Note: The young men also worked to raise fund for the young men's association. They voluntarily worked two or three times because of the fund.
Text at the Top Right
When we were in low spirits after losing the war, this friendly and cooperative work boosted the morale of the workers.
