"Raise your gun one more time, Ichitaro, yai!" cried Kame to her son.
This story was also carried in the school textbook and had been popular until the beginning of the Showa era (1926-1989). This is the scene observed when the 12th Regiment of the 11th Infantry Division of Marugame was leaving Tadotsu Port in Shikoku for their second dispatch to the front in March, 1905 after having finished their first service at the front line in 1904. (Kajitaro [the son's real name] had called out to his mother before she uttered the above words, raising his gun and saying, "Here I am, Mother!") The real name of the man known as "Ichitaro" was reportedly Kajitaro Okada, who was a private. It was said that Prefectural Governor Onoda at that time misheard "Kajitaro" and that he announced his name as "Kazutaro" to the public. This name reached His Majesty's ears as "Kazutaro([which can also be pronounced Ichitaro]." In the end, Kajitaro was known as "Ichitaro."
Later in 1922, His Imperial Highness, the Prince Regent at that time [Emperor Showa (reign: 1926-1989)], met Kajitaro and his mother on the roadside of Tenjinyama, Kamitakano, Toyonaka Town after Mayor Yanagida presented their photograph to His Imperial Highness when the Autumn Maneuvers took place in Shikoku.
