The following song lyrics are of a folk song called Rappa Bushi [Bugle Song] which became very popular from around the end of 1904 during the Russo-Japanese War.
Imanaru rappa wa hachiji han.
Areni okurerya ju eiso.
Tsugi no nichiyo ga nai de nashi.
Hanase gunto ni sabi ga noru.
Toko-tottoko-toh!
The sound of the bugle blowing now is telling me it is 8:30 p.m.
I will be harshly confined if I am late for the call.
Don't you understand that I'll be able to come again next Sunday?
Let me go, or the sheath of my saber will rust away.
Toko-tottoko-toh! (Onomatopoeia of the sound of a bugle)
