The people in the pit prayed to the pit deity for the fortune of the pit on this fine and happy holiday, receiving congratulatory addresses from the director of the Tagawa Coal Bureau, the president of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and Mr. Goro Aoyagi after the purification by a Shinto priest.
Each pit worker was given 3 go (180ml. x 3) of sake, a bottle of beer, and a box lunch. (Since the No.2 pit of the company was closing, the people at Ito Coal Pit were filled with the joy of renewal.) A party for the guests and officials was held in the memorial hall. (The pit foreman at that time was Mr. Masayoshi Ueno [assigned in August of 1946] aged 60.)
