A small-scale fault was called a gakkuri, kuichigai, or domagure. Coal could not be brought out with a normal sura (coal sled) through haulage ways with faults because they inclined unevenly and their bottoms were soft. In this case, the carrier used a shallow bamboo basket called a battera with no sled. The battera was elliptical and had two pieces of cut bamboo used as skids on its bottom and could contain 150 kg of coal.
