tsuyade kuru sama washi ga sama.
Gotton! Dokkoi!

My sweetheart is coming up so amorously from the slope bottom,
shouldering a yoke and baskets filled with 100 kin (60 kg) of coal.
Gotton (Clang)! Dokkoi! (Interjected chants)

She could not walk without angling the front basket. She did not have to carry a lot of coal before her yoke had callused her waist. The stick in her left hand used to help her walk was called a "shumoku," which was about 15 centimeters long.
