21.1 x 30.4 cm Ink Painting
Text at the Right End
This shouldering basket was mainly used in the late Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926) eras, and it is still used today [as of 1960's] for carrying out coal from descending coalfaces of thick coal beds (in small pits).
Text at the Bottom Center
Strong female miners also used this basket but only brave women could do the work. Weak ones would not use it to do the work.
