Text on the Right Side
The coal (sumi) which was pulled up from the pit bottom with basket coal sleds (bara sura) or box coal sleds (hako sura) was once dumped at levels (kanekata) and was later scooped up into mine cars with bamboo winnows (ebijoke) and four-blade rakes (ganzume) after a mine-car-load or a few mine-car-loads of coal was amassed.
Lyrics of "Gotton Bushi" Song on the Left Side
Oroshizoko kara fuitekuru kaze wa
sama-chan koishi to fuitekuru.
Gotton!
The wind from the pit bottom is blowing
as if it is missing my sweetheart.
Gotton (Clang)! (Interjected chant)
