"O-rai! (Stop!)" and "Domagureta! (My car was derailed!)" were the shouts to warn following miners to stop their mine cars lest the mine cars collide with the derailed one. It was somewhat difficult to stop loaded mine cars in the levels of coal pits (yama) because the levels inclined naturally and the loaded mine cars moved lightly and smoothly.

What is the derivation of "O-rai?" Is it the corrupt form of "Oi (Hey)"? Did someone put [ra] between [o ] and [i ] to emphasize the word?
