[Coal Pits (Yama) and Foxes #3 (Fires That Broke out Every Night in Y Coal Pit)]
21.0 x 29.9 cm Ink Painting

Text on the Right Side
All the people in Y Coal Pit became very nervous, could not sleep soundly, and were in constant fear because of a series of suspicious fires that broke out every night. They took strict care to prevent fires from occurring, but in vain. The people appointed for guard duty would be tired and sleepy by midnight. Then a lamp in a house suddenly began to swing, fell from the hook, and broke. The oil spilt out from the broken tank and exploded at once, turning the house into a blazing inferno by the time people got to it.

Text at the Bottom Left
"Hey, I can't stand these raging fires."
"No matter how I think about it, these fires are unusual."
"I wonder if our pit is cursed."
"I don't know, but those fires weren't made by humans."
