Most pit mouths are located in isolated areas in the mountains. They were opened through construction work which cut hills and buried valleys. I am going to record, in this series of paintings, the origin of the Inari Shrine where the guardian deity of Yamano Coal Pit, which was opened in 1898 and is run by the large conglomerate Mitsui, is enshrined.
