The following is a war song called "Yukan-naru Suihei (A Brave Seaman)'' written by the late Nobutsuna Sasaki:

Kemuri mo miezu kumo mo naku,
kaze mo okorazu nami tatazu.
Kagami no gotoki Kokai wa
kumori sometaru toki no ma ni. (Churyaku)
Fuku-kancho no sugiyuku o
kasumu manako ni mitomeken.
Koe o kagiri ni kare wa tou,
"Mada shizuma zu ya Teien wa?"

There was no smoke and not a cloud to be seen,
and there was no blowing of the wind and no waves upon the sea.
The water of the Yellow Sea was as calm as glass,
when it began to get cloudy. (Lyrics partly omitted)
He might have noticed the vice-commander passing him by,
though his eyesight was dim from his deadly wound.
He asked the vice-commander, shouting at the top of his lungs,
"Is the Dingyuan [Chinese battleship] still afloat upon the sea?"

This picture shows the seamen in the above song, Seaman Recruit Torajiro Miura from Saga Prefecture and Vice Commander Major Mukoyama, on the deck of the Cruiser Matsushima.
