Yama no Kome-sodo #10 (Oyabun no Patororu)
[Rice Riots at Coal Pits (Yama) #10 (Patrolling Boss)]
38.0 x 54.0 cm Painting in Watercolors and Ink

Some towns had repercussions from the rice riot at Mineji Coal Pit (in Soeda Town). This picture shows a boss (kaoyaku) in Gotoji Town (in the Tagawa area) far from Soeda Town and Kawasaki Town (as well as from Hojo Town and Kanada Town), who is on alert. He was riding a horse, wearing a sword on his naked back and patrolling the neighborhood with some loyal men. He was acting big like a militia general.
