The former San-nai Coal Pit along Kasamatsu-toge Pass was opened in 1896 and closed in 1910. New San-nai (Shishiba) Coal Pit was opened two kilometers away to the south in 1907.
Some of the soldiers who were sent to Kamimio Coal Pit for the dynamite explosion case also came to San-nai Coal Pit run by the same owner, taking a 3-kilometer mountain path and crossing the Tobi River. Most of the workers at this pit were mild and there was no uneasy atmosphere or ugly situation in the pit probably because gentle kanayama kofus (miners from the copper mine in Ehime Prefecture) had worked there since its opening.
However, the dynamite explosion at Kamimio Coal Pit had a great effect on the treatment of miners. The amount of miners' wages including subsidies and so on rose to almost twice as much as those before, and the price of rice (the cheaper one) was also reduced to 28 sen (0.28 yen) per sho (1.8 liters), owing to new food subsidies. The miners at San-nai Coal Pit were pleased to have profited from the situation which had changed suddenly due to the work of others.
"Hey, the blasting at Kamimio had a good effect. One more blast might result in the rise of our wages again."

Nikkyufu niwari age: The wages of day laborers will be raised by 20 %.
Hanki mankin itsuka bun, ichinichi yasumi mikka bun, kata shoyo: Those who work every day for half a month shall have a 5-days-worth shift bonus and those who take only one day off in the same period shall have a 3-days-worth shift bonus.
Kogai migi to onaji: Surface workers shall have shift bonuses in the same way as the underground workers.
Hakumai issho kin niju hassen nari ni hojo su: We distribute subsidies so that polished rice will be sold at 28 sen (0.28 yen) per sho (1.8 liters).
