1958 - 1963

Yama no Kome-sodo #6 (Denchu no Ue kara Heitai ni Dainamaito o Nageru Otoko)
[Rice Riots at Coal Pits (Yama) #6 (Rioter Throwing Dynamite at Soldiers from the Top of a Utility Pole)]
21.2 x 30.1 cm Ink Painting

A rioter climbed up a utility pole and began to throw sticks of dynamite at soldiers after igniting their fuses. (Of course, he held a cigarette between his teeth and ignited each fuse with it.) Lots of other rioters around the foot of the pole tied sticks of dynamite one after another to the thin hemp rope hanging from one of his hands. By pulling up dynamite to throw at the soldiers, he became a threat without equal.
The soldiers shouted many times at him to come down the pole, but he stubbornly refused their order. Therefore, the soldiers reluctantly aimed their guns at him. One of the soldiers fired a shot and another shot followed. The man on the pole went to the other world.

Soldiers: Come down the pole, or we'll shoot you!
Rioter under the pole: Ignore them! Throw it!
