20.9 x 30.1 cm Ink Painting
The rice riot at Mineji Coal Mine in Tagawa County was the most violent. The rioters of the pit led by their ringleader, who was called Saburo Asahina [name of a very strong samurai in the Kamakura period (1192-1333)], raided the mine store directly run by their company in the first place. However, their leader's real name was Inokichi Yonekura. I wonder if they asked the retainer [Saburo Asahina] of Yoritomo [founder of the Kamakura Shogunate (1192-1333)] in Kamakura for help.
Text at the Bottom Left
The mine store originally called an urikamba was called a bumpaijo (in the pits run by Mr. Aso) or kobaikai (in the pits run by Nittetsu) at that time.
Text at the Top Right
