The soldiers sent to Kamimio Coal Pit for the blasting case also came running through the mountain pass of Tobigawa (for more than two kilometers) to San-nai Coal Pit run by the same owner. All of the pit workers at this pit had been exceptionally mild since the opening of the pit and they had not complained about anything or negotiated a raise. However, the day after the blasting, the company announced their intentions to raise their employees' bounties or incentives to 250 % of the previous amount. The incentive for those who worked for 14 out of 15 days in half a month rose from two days' worth to five days' worth. Also mining wages were doubled. The bounty decided according to the number of entry into the pit became 250 % of the previous amount which was the same as that for day laborers. Moreover, the price of imported polished rice, which smelled differently than Japanese rice, was lowered to 28 sen (0.28 yen) per sho (1.8 liters) by distributing food subsidies from the company. (The market price of rice was more than 40 sen [0.4 yen].)
