[Rice Riots at Coal Pits (Yama) #13: Riots in the Kaho and Iizuka Districts]
20.9 x 30.2 cm Ink Painting

Upon receiving an urgent report, the military stationed in Iizuka town hastened to the spot of the riot. They drove off the pit workers gathering near the refuse heap of the Central Coal Pit by threatening them with blank shots and closing in around them with bayonets.
Mr. Bokoyama [assumed name] who had been forced to join the rioters could not stand that time because his knees gave away. While he was trying to crawl and run away, a brave soldier pierced his thigh with his bayonet. In the same way as a few other rioters, he died of blood loss in the hospital.
In this way, two people in Tagawa and one person in Kaho were killed in the riots.
