Bota Kozumi (Gasu Kantera)
[Rock Cribbing (Gas Lamp)]
21.2 x 30.3 cm Ink Painting
The bota-kozumi or rock cribbing was built by making a fence with big masses of rock and filling it with small pieces. In pits that produced lots of big masses of silicified wood, the bota-kozumi was built, using only big masses. In pits that produced only small pieces of rock, miners stood some pieces of lagging inside a few large bamboo hoops and filled the cribbing with the rocks.
